PIP Program

The Parole in Place (PIP) Program announced by the Biden Administration is set to go into effect on August 19, 2024.

This program aims to provide relief for certain undocumented spouses of US citizens [1][2]. 

Here are the key points about this new PIP program:

Eligibility

To qualify for PIP, applicants must:


1. Have entered the US without permission.

2. Be married to a US citizen as of June 17, 2024.

3. Have lived in the US for at least 10 years as of June 17, 2024.

4. Meet other requirements related to criminal and immigration history [1][3].


Benefits

If granted, recipients will:


1. Be protected from deportation for 3 years.

2. Be able to apply for a work permit.

3. Be eligible to apply for permanent residence (green card) through their US citizen spouse without having to leave the US [1][2].


Scope

According to estimates, this program could potentially benefit up to 500,000 undocumented spouses of US Citizens[2][4].



Application Process

The specific application process has not yet been released. However:


1. USCIS will publish a notice in the Federal Register detailing the application process.

2. Applicants will need to submit supporting evidence and pay a fee.

3. Applications submitted before the official opening of the application period will be rejected [2][3].
